Free range poultry

Chickens are a great addition to the farm.  When used in our rotational grazing operations, they are great at scratching through goat and rabbit droppings.  They do a great job hunting for bugs, and provide a great source of eggs and meat.

We have raised all of our birds from day old chicks until adulthood.  We have a self sustaining flock of Buff Orpingtons as meat birds, and two smaller flocks of Red Star hens as layers.  Buff Orpingtons are a beautiful heritage breed that tend to get broody which is great for meat birds.  Red Stars are a "mutt" blend.  Our hens produce a lovely spectrum of dark eggs.
