We are situated at the confluence of the North and Main Fork of the Skokomish River, at the southern edge of the Olympic National Forest. There are many things to see and do in our neck of the woods. In the immediate vicinity of the farm, you can do these following activities (the gallery view works best on a desktop. mobile views may not allow the ability to scroll through images with accompanying text)
Explore a River
Getting ready for our afternoon walk on the North Fork of the Skokomish River. We start our day under the bridge that connects the east and west sides of the farm
When the temperature reaches the upper 80s, sometimes it’s nice to sit in the water and cool down.
Red ochre abounds in the river. Take a rock, rub, and instant make up!
Shellfish
VieW Wildlife
Our land is often visited by the largest herd of Roosevelt Elk on this side of the Hood Canal
When the hay has not been cut, you are lucky to see the elks’ head stick out. Thankfully, in the shot, the fields have been mowed, and even the ones sitting down can be seen
Thank goodness for our 8 foot elk fence. Otherwise, this buck would have happily jumped over to munch on our veggies.
Frogs abound. Not only are we close to two river heads, but our own fresh water pond is a haven for frogs. Lots of frog song in the spring evenings!
Golden and bald eagles visit often. They come in especially high concentrations when the salmon are running up the river.
Nothing venomous, but we definitely get lots of garter snakes.
Insects you normally don’t see in the city
Berry pick
Additionally, near the farm, there are a plethora of outdoor activities. Opportunities abound for boaters, shore goers, clamming, fishing, SCUBA diving, to name a few. Below, please find links to a few other marquee activities in close proximity:
